When 11 skaters on your team have at least three shots on goal and every player but one has a point, there aren’t many other ways to describe it.
Offensive domination.
Scoring eight unanswered goals to start the game, the Aces ran all over the Bears and for the fourth game in a row, they hit the back of the net at least seven times. Like most of the season, the Aces offense came from a variety of sources, as Chris Holmes, C.J. Tozzo and James Brannigan netted two goals apiece, while Mike “shooter” Thomson, Kyle McCullough and B.J. Kuper had tallies of their own. McCullough also had two assists on the night, giving him 11 on the season for the league lead.
Like their last three games, the Aces defense and goaltending was extremely solid as well, with backup goaltender Miro Recicar making 24 saves for his third win of the season.
Dan Malloy and Phil Esposito scored for the Bears in the second period.
Now 6-1 through their first seven games, the Aces are eight points ahead of the second place New Jersey Rockhoppers.
Notes-
The Bears only used 12 skaters in the game, four defensemen and eight forwards, including former Ace Jerry Cardinale. Former Aces captain Dan Rohanna was not in the lineup for Hudson Valley.
Despite losing both Cardinale and Rohanna a few days ago, the Aces haven’t missed a beat and have gone 2-0, scoring 17 goals in the process.
In addition, the team feels like they’ll continue their winning ways without the two.
“We’re all so close that we know we can’t make excuses; we have to move on,” said forward Jesse Felten after the last home game on Friday. “They are both great guys and we’ll miss them, but we’re really starting to come together right now and we’re focused on doing our jobs on the ice.”
The Aces have six players in the top 10 in league scoring and eight in the top 15. The Aces have outscored their opponents 45-21 this season. Both Aces goaltenders, Eddie Neville and Recicar are tied for the league lead in wins with three and are first and second in GAA.
Chad Wilcox is currently leading the EPHL in penalty minutes with 57.
The attendance for last night’s game was 396.
The Aces next game will be against Hudson Valley at the Ice Time Sports Complex on November 26.
