Aces Over Brooklyn: Independent Brooklyn Aces Coverage Rotating Header Image

Thankful Aces Tranquilize Bears 7-2

For most of the season, all the talk regarding the Brooklyn Aces has been about the team’s top scoring line and goaltender Eddie Neville. Last night at the Ice Time Sports Complex, the rest of the Aces pulled off their best Joe Cocker impersonation and “Got by with a little help from their friends.”

Led by goaltender Miro Reciciar’s 22 saves and a five point night from Aces speedy newbie Tony Resendes, the Aces coasted to a 7-2 win over the Hudson Valley Bears.

Despite the emergence of Resendes and another solid performance from Recicar [who has responded marvelously after giving up six goals a few weeks ago against the Bears] the Aces got offense from all three lines, as tallies by James Brannigan, B.J. Kuper, Mike Christensen and Mike “shooter” Thomson and two assist nights from Chris Holmes and team captain and enforcer Chad Wilcox fueled a 51 shot performance and another dominating win.

Aggressive to boot, Wilcox [on two occasions] and Brannigan tussled with the scrappy Joe Pele, giving the Hudson Valley forward three fighting majors for the game and set an aggressive tone. Jumping out to an early 1-0 lead on an Andrew Scampoli powerplay marker, the Aces were up 3-0 before the Bears decided to attempt a comeback.

That’s when former Ace Jerry Cardinale scored his first goal of the season, cutting the lead to 3-1. Hudson Valley defenseman Dan Malloy also had two points, notching a goal of his own and assisting on Cardinale’s goal, but that didn’t come until the third period when the score was already 7-1.

Notes-

Hudson Valley goaltender Matt Trusz gave up seven goals on 45 shots and was relieved of his duties late in the third by Vincent Januska, who stopped all six shots he faced.

So far this season, the Bears have used five goaltenders in Trusz, Januska, Jim Pellegrino, Len DiCostanzo , and Ryan Hull.

7-1 for the season, the Aces have outscored their opponents 52-23 and are eight points ahead of the second place New Jersey Rockhoppers, who are 3-3 through six games. The Aces also lead the league in powerplay goals with 17 and have two shorthanded goals and 289 penalty minutes under their belts.

Former Aces captain Dan Rohanna was not in the lineup for Hudson Valley last night and his status is still currently unknown.

Since we have a hockey channel, how come we don't see them play? I would like to see the aggressiveness of play that you mention in your piece.
