Coming off their second loss of the season this past Saturday, the Brooklyn Aces will be out for blood this Thursday at Aviator Arena when they face off against the Danbury Mad Hatters. If their last game against one another on Nov. 29 was any indication, this is going to be one nasty affair.
With no indication of how long sniper James Brannigan’s suspension is for or how long assistant captain Rob Miller will be sidelined, the Aces may be shorthanded once again against Danbury.
In spite of being without two of their best players, the Aces can still play with any team in the league, evidenced by their overtime loss to the New Jersey Rockhoppers. However, they’ll have to be on top of their game to make sure Danbury doesn’t squeak out a win.
Armed with a dangerous forward in Igor Karlov, a talented defenseman in Dan Hickman and a surging goaltender in Derek MacIntyre, Danbury has all the pieces in place to challenge Brooklyn. What is not to be overlooked about the Mad Hatters either is their toughness, as Hank Carisio and Mykul Haun can help out offensively as well as drop the gloves with they have to, giving this team just enough diversity to make a run at the second place New Jersey Rockhoppers as the season progresses.
As far as this game goes though, Aces captain Chad Wilcox may have his gloves off longer than he’d like to in this one.
Nevertheless, the Aces, even without Brannigan and Miller, have the most dynamic offense in the league and a more than solid defense to protect goaltender Eddie Neville, who looks to get the nod tonight with the Aces other goaltender, Miro Recicar still on the shelf. However in order to win tonight, they’ll have to continue to get offense from Tony Resendes, who has 13 points in only seven games and has filled in admirably for Brannigan on the team’s top line with C.J. Tozzo and Kyle McCollaugh, as well as “Super” B.J. Kuper, who has eight goals and four assists in 12 games in an energy role. If the Aces do indeed get a team-wide performance and can get a solid performance from their defense, this could be one of the best games of the season.
Stay Tuned.
