Firriolo’s Statement on Chad Wilcox’s Status with the Brooklyn Aces

After yesterday afternoon’s loss to Danbury, I had an opportunity to speak to Brooklyn Aces head coach Chris Firriolo about the status of team captain Chad Wilcox, who in addition to being on injured reserve with a serious knee injury that could have him out for over a month, was involved in an altercation between fans and the New Jersey Rockhoppers on Friday that ended with Police arriving and investigating the scene at Aviator Arena.

With ten points and 165 PIM in 21 games, Wilcox was the league’s bad boy, but he provided the Aces with more than just a big pair of hands. After team captain Dan Rohanna was traded to Hudson Valley, Wilcox inherited the mantle and did a solid job as the team’s on-ice leader. A fan favorite at Aviator, Wilcox’s possible departure this season creates a huge void for a team that needs a sheriff to police the ice, especially with a handful of players with over 30 points that have played a part in the team’s fantastic offense this season.

As of right now, Wilcox is on IR, but from the looks of it, his recent off-ice activities could land him without a job for the rest of the season.

“He’s going back to Florida for about four or five weeks,” Firriolo said. “But we haven’t decided what we’re going to do with him. He’s going to facing some disciplinary actions over the next few weeks. There’s a chance he’s not going to be back here for the rest of the season.”
