The Brooklyn Aces have never truly been down on their luck this season, but losing three games in a row for the first time this weekend seemed to have taken it’s toll on them.
In spite of that though, the team had plenty of jam in yesterday’s 1-0 win against the Danbury Mad Hatters and are now looking to put their recent stretch of bad luck behind them.
“I think we did what we had to do tonight,” said Aces goaltender Eddie Neville after the game. “Everyone worked as a team and did what we have to do out there in order to be successful. We have plenty of guys that can do different things and it was important since we didn’t score much. I don’t think we have anything to be concerned about.”
Fighting injuries to two-way standout Mike Christensen, veteran defensemen Dan Carney and Rob Miller and enforcer Chad Wilcox [who is also serving a 30-day suspension], it would be all too easy for Brooklyn to relinquish their spot atop the EPHL.

Confident after defeating their rivals at home, the Aces are biding their time until they get healthy again and are ready to get back to their dominant ways.
“If we have to lose a few games down the stretch to make us a better team come playoff time, so be it,” said Aces head coach Chris Firriolo a few days ago. “We’re banged up right now and in a few weeks, when we get guys like Rob Miller, Andrew Scampoli [currently playing in Holland] and Mikey Christensen back, I’m confident that we’ll be in much better shape. The guys are working really hard right now, but it’s a long season. Things like this will happen when you have injuries.”
For the time being however, the Aces are looking to savor the tough win.
Nevertheless, they understand that things aren’t going to be as easy as they were before.
“Any time you can get a grind it out win like that it’s great,” said Aces forward Eric Frank after the team defeated Danbury last night. “It was nice to take this win into next weekend. We got hit by some bad luck in the first two games and we weren’t doing what we were supposed to be doing out there. We needed this win really bad. The past few weeks have shown us that we’re not that much better than the rest of the league and if we want to keep winning we have to continue to work hard out there.”
