On the EPHL’s very first trading deadline day, the Brooklyn Aces made the moves they felt necessary in order to ensure a championship.

According to a source within the organization, the team has released Brent Ozarowski and Joe Lovell, two players that could not perform in the playoffs due to the fact that they played less than five games in the regular season.

In one game with Brooklyn, Ozarowski marveled on a line with Kyle McCullough and C.J. Tozzo, scoring three points. Lovell was also steady in his time with the team, scoring three points in three games.

After leaving the team’s last home game after the first period, due to a coach’s decision, Mike Thomson, who was third on the team with 52 points, was placed on team suspension. [Edit, EPHL Press Release 10:54 P.M.]

No other information regarding this situation is currently known at the time.

According to a press release by the EPHL, both the Brooklyn Aces and New Jersey Rockhoppers have signed former New York Ranger star Ron Duguay to a one game contract, making him the second oldest player to lace up the skates in a professional hockey game.

Duguay will play for the Brooklyn Aces on Saturday, March 21 when they take on the Rockhoppers at Aviator Sports and Recreation Center. The following day, he’ll don the orange and black when Jersey faces off with the Danbury Mad Hatters.

As part of Duguay’s signing, the EPHL will be joining forces with Duguay to promote the Madison Square Garden charitable organization, The Garden of Dreams. Throughout both games, the teams will be conducting auctions of hockey memorabilia and special opportunities to benefit this fund.

In 860 NHL games, Duguay scored 274 goals and 582 points. In 12 NHL seasons, he spent six in Madison Square Garden with the Rangers.

According to a press release by the EPHL, the Brooklyn Aces have waived forward Mike Baccaro.

Out of the lineup for over a month, Baccaro was an effective checking forward, but was unable to be an offensive force. With the team struggling for offense, Baccaro became expendable, especially with new arrival Joe Pelle on the scene.

In four games with the Aces, Baccaro had one assist and was a -1.

According to a press release from the EPHL and a source in the Brooklyn Aces organization, Mike Christensen, Dan Carney and Eddie Neville have been called up to the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL for tomorrow’s game against the Dayton Bombers.

All three have played a key role in the team’s success this season- Christensen has 25 goals in just 28 games and Carney is a +7 in nine games. The team’s starting goaltender for most of the season, Neville has a 16-4 record with a .914 save percentage.

The Aces also acquired gritty forward Joe Pelle from the Hudson Valley Bears to complete the transaction made almost two weeks ago when the team sent veteran D-man Nick Grove to the team for future considerations.

In 12 games with the Bears this season, Pelle has three assists and 173 penalty minutes.

Over the past few minutes, Aces Over Brooklyn has confirmed that defenseman Nick Grove has been traded from the Aces to the Hudson Valley Bears for future considerations.

Despite being one of the steadiest defensemen in the league this season with 22 points in 34 games, Brooklyn believed Grove was expendable once fellow defensemen Rob Miller and Andrew Scampoli rejoined the team.

According to the Aces, a revised work schedule also played a part in the move.

“Things have changed for him lately and we felt that he’d be a better fit with Hudson Valley right now because he’s very close with the staff over there,” said Aces head coach Chris Firriolo. “He’s been one of the best defensemen in the league all season, but we have seven [defensemen] right now and we had to make a move.”

According to a press release by the EPHL, the Brooklyn Aces have waived forward Matt McGilvray and activated defenseman Rob Miller from injured reserve.

In eight games with Brooklyn this season, McGilvray scored three goals and was a +2.

Activated from injured reserve, Miller will add some of the toughness the team has lacked since former captain Chad Wilcox went down with an injured knee last month.

In just 11 games with Brooklyn this season, Miller was an offensive presence as well, scoring 10 points and going a more than solid +14.

According to a press release by the EPHL, the Brooklyn Aces have signed 34-year-old forward Vladislav Kouroedov.

Originally hired by the New Jersey Rockhoppers as their assistant coach in August, Kouroedov becomes the second former coach to lace up the skates for Brooklyn this season.

According to HockeyDB.com, his last professional action came in 99-00 with the Knoxville Speed of the UHL, where he scored three points in nine games. Before that, he played with the Spartak Moscow team in the Russian Professional Elite League. He also played his junior hockey in the Russian Junior League.

According to a press release by the EPHL, the Brooklyn Aces have waived forwards Sean Walsh and Derek Kern, in a move to create roster room for recently activated forward Tony Resendes and defenseman Andrew Scampoli.

Brought in for the team’s last homestand, Walsh was a gritty presence, but couldn’t find his way on the scoresheet, going scoreless in three games. He was also a -4.

In seven games this season with Brooklyn, Kern was a solid-two-way contributor, scoring five points and accumulating 24 minutes in penalties.

According to a press release from the EPHL, the Brooklyn Aces have activated defenseman Andrew Scampoli, who was on team suspension while playing in Holland.

In five games with Brooklyn this season, the Long Island Native had six points.

Aces Over Brooklyn has also been informed by a source within the Aces organization that forward Tony Resendes has been activated from team suspension as well. One of the team’s most dynamic offensive threats before suffering a sprain of his MCL on Dec. 18 against the Danbury Mad Hatters, Resendes has 13 points in 10 games this season.

Both are expected in the lineup on Friday when the Aces take on the New Jersey Rockhoppers at Aviator Arena.

According to a press release by the EPHL, the Aces have put defensemen Gabe Yeung and Joe Lyle on waivers alongside forward Eddie Chlanda.

Scoring seven points in 12 games with Brooklyn after being picked up from Hudson Valley in early January, the Aces coaching staff wanted more toughness from the 6′5 blue liner.

“He was playing in all situations in Hudson Valley; he was the backbone of that team,” said Aces head coach Chris Firriolo. “We wanted something different from him here and he didn’t quite fit into that role. At the end of the day, I’m a huge Gabe Yeung fan, but we’re looking for something else right now. He also has an opportunity to play in England that he has to think about.”

Battling concussion problems all season, Lyle, who was let go by Brooklyn earlier in the season and was picked up by the Bears, seemed primed for more health-related issues, forcing the Aces to part ways with him.
