Over the course of the season, the Brooklyn Aces have parted ways with several tough customers.
After the first handful of games this season, the team traded then-Captain Dan Rohanna to the Hudson Valley Bears in a parity move to help the struggling team keep pace with the rest of the league. The same day, the team let agitator and Bensonhurst-native Jerry Cardinale go on waivers, who despite his relatively small size at 5′9, 165 pounds, had no problem dropping the gloves with anyone in the EPHL.
Now, after losing Chad Wilcox to injury and maybe even suspension, for what may be the rest of the season, the Aces must find a way to toughen up and fast.

It’s been a while since the last podcast, so rather than beat around the bush, AcesOverBrooklyn.com gets right to business. In this exclusive interview, AOB speaks with Brooklyn Aces head coach Chris Firriolo, who opens up about the recent roster moves the team has made over the past few weeks in addition to addressing the rash of injuries the team has had to deal with this season. Firriolo also discusses the play of Eric Frank and Miro Recicar and the impact Ian McLoughlin and Mike Thomson have had on the blue line.

With leading scorer James Brannigan called up to Utah of the ECHL and Tony Resendes, Rob Miller and Mike Richards still on the shelf nursing injuries, the Brooklyn Aces needed some reinforcements quickly if they were going to continue their dominant ways this season.
According to a press release by the EPHL, Brooklyn has done just that, picking up 6′5 defenseman Gabe Yeung and forward Joey Grasso from the Hudson Valley Bears for future considerations.
Originally given up by the Aces in the expansion draft following Hudson Valley’s arrival into the league, Yeung gives the Aces the solid physical presence on the blueline they’ve been missing due to Miller’s injury. In 15 games with the Bears this season, the 230 pounder has six assists and 60 PIM.

The newest team in the EPHL, the Hudson Valley Bears, concluded their player draft earlier in the week and three players from the Aces were lost in the process. Defensemen Joe Lyle and Gabe Yeung and goaltender Len DiCostanzo will all have some Uhauls to rent in the next few days on their ways to their new club. While Lyle and DiConstanzo have minimal professional hockey experience, so it’s impossible to know what they would have done this season in Brooklyn, it would have been nice to see the 6′5, 230 pound Yeung [who has skated for 13 teams over the past five seasons in 10 different leagues] in Brooklyn this season, especially with the gritty Dan Rohanna as his partner.
Nevertheless, in spite of those losses, you have to like the direction this team is going. With only three players announced thus far, the Aces have already addressed several key roles, which could play a pivotal role in their success this season.
